Searching for Independence with a Disability Episode 3

8 Apr 2025

Simon's left home and got his own place. But, as he explains, independence for someone with severe spinal cord injury is relative. He details his daily routine and his new life with a carer ever-present. Simon bemoans the fact that many of his carers aren't sufficiently trained to manage someone with his type of injury. Many of them, he says, aren't really interested on helping him get out and about. It becomes clear that the calibre of Simon's carer determines the quality of his day.

Simon chats to Ade, one of his longest-serving carers. Ade gives a touching account of their time together.
